BEMS Controls Engineer Apprenticeship shortlisted for CIBSE Building Performance Awards
The Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS) Controls Engineer Apprenticeship, developed by the Building Controls Employer Group, has been shortlisted for the CIBSE Building Performance Awards 2023 in the Learning and Development category.
The CIBSE Building Performance Awards recognise the people, products and projects that demonstrate engineering excellence in the built environment. Entries are open to any organisation, both within the UK and internationally, that is responsible for the design, commissioning, construction, installation and operation of low energy buildings and the manufacturers whose products enable efficient energy consumption.
The apprenticeship offers a balance of on the job assessments and technical training covering all aspects of the industry. Through a unique partnership between the Building Controls Industry Association (BCIA), which developed a full set of course materials, and Group Horizon which delivers the apprenticeship, specialist tutors deliver the BCIA’s technical course modules BCM00 – BCM15 as part of the apprenticeship. The three year Level 4 apprenticeship will ensure an ongoing introduction of new, fully qualified BEMS Controls Engineers into the industry to overcome the industry wide shortage.
Wendy Belfield, Chair of the Building Controls Employer Group, said: “The BEMS Controls Engineer Apprenticeship being shortlisted for the CIBSE Building Performance Awards is fantastic news and is deserved recognition for the group of volunteers who helped to develop it over a four year period. The work which has been completed to date is the single biggest development for the BEMS industry and for anybody looking to pursue a career within it.”
She added: “The Employer Group continues to meet every six weeks to share feedback from the cohorts already on the programme and learn from it. This has led to a continuous development process which seeks to ensure that every learner on the programme has access to the best materials, lecturers and learning experience which will help them to begin their journey in the industry.”
Winners from the shortlisted entries will be announced at the CIBSE Building Performance Awards on Wednesday, 1 March 2023, at Park Plaza Westminster Bridge London.
