Jon Belfield, Immediate Past President of the BCIA, will be chairing a discussion session at CIBSE’s Build2perform digital event on Wednesday 25th November. Taking place across four days this week, Build2Perform Live 2020 is the meeting place for forward-thinking industry professionals, visionary speakers, leading industry exhibitors and young talent.

The discussion, titled Smart Buildings: Using the technology you already have, will focus on how we can make better use of the controls and related systems that many buildings already have. Joining Jon on the panel are Peter McDermott of Mott MacDonald, Tom Hopton of Buro Happold and Kate Rotheram of Honeywell. The panel will also discuss how controls can contribute to the better performance of a building, improving the occupants’ experience of being in the building and helping them to be more effective when in the building.

Jon Belfield said, “The CIBSE IT & Controls Group has been very active in getting BMS ‘out of the shadows’. There can be a temptation to continuously update a building’s technology – when in actual fact, the controls already in a building need to be used more effectively and better understood in order to make the building run more efficiently. I am extremely grateful to CIBSE for recognising the importance of ‘getting buildings performing better’ and the key roll that BMS plays in achieving this shared ambition”.
