Vacancy: BCIA Executive Officer

The role of Executive Officer is pivotal to the operation of the Association and is responsible for running four committees/working groups; general members’ meetings; the financial stability of the organisation; liaison with FETA, external organisations and sub-contractors; promotion of the Association to individuals, external organisations and the trade press or via 3rd parties; responsible for the development and execution of all events and general day-to-day admini­stration.

The role reports to the BCIA President, Vice President, Man­agement Committee, Working Group Chairmen and Member companies. Good communication skills are essential as the Executive Officer is often the first point of contact for the Association.  As part of the FETA organisation, there is regular contact with FETA staff and exter­nal bodies such as the ECA, BSRIA and external sub-contractors.

The position is offered on a sub-contract basis and the successful candidate will need to be self-motivated, able to encourage others to meet their commitments, have a good working knowledge of the building con­trols industry, and an appreciation of marketing techniques. The workload is esti­mated to require 72 days per annum but may increase depending on the activities of the association.  A working base will be provided at FETA offices, Hare Hatch RG10 9TH (although a large amount of work will be home based).  Travel expenses will be paid from the nearest base to the meeting venue.

Personal Qualities: Integrity, self-motivation, outgoing personality, perseverance.

Skills: Administrative, organisational, analytical, inter-personal, communicative (aural, oral and written), presentational.

Experience: Controls/building services, management, sales/marketing, contracting, technical, consultancy/advisory.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Finances: Compilation of annual budget and subscription structure in conjunction with the Management

Committee. Management of expenditure and accounting in con­junction with FETA accountants.

Committees & Working Groups: Arrangement of venues and speakers, production of minutes and follow-up actions for the Members Committee (plenary), Management Committee and three Working Groups comprising Marketing, Skills Development, and Technical.

Building Controls Industry Awards: Working with sub-contractors in the development and execution of the BCIA Awards, together with the editor of our media partners.

Future BCIA Conferences: Working with the Marketing Working Group, it is the responsibility of the Executive Officer

to locate conference speakers, liaise with the hotel, instruct the presentational equipment supplier, promote the event in­ternally and externally, and take responsibility for the smooth running of the conference.

Sub-Contractors: The BCIA employs four or more sub-contractors in the delivery of market statistics and the technical training programme and the awards event. The Executive Officer needs to be aware of their work and, when required, assist them.
