BCIA & CIBSE Partnership

The BCIA are part of an ongoing partnership with the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineering, known as CIBSE. CIBSE is the professional body that supports built environment professionals and promotes excellence and advancement in all aspects of building services engineering.
As the controls industry is an integral part of building operation, CIBSE & the BCIA collaborate to advance our field within the building services sector. Several initiatives have been agreed on, including mutual promotion and sponsorship at industry events, exchange of memberships and speaking opportunities, and participation in conferences and awards ceremonies.
One particular focus is encouraging co-operation between our BCIA YEN and the equivalent young engineers’ network at CIBSE. CIBSE YEN aims to provide local support for building services engineers, guidance for career development, and fosters early engagement of young engineers within the CIBSE institution. As a long-standing organisation, CIBSE YEN have an extensive programme of events across the UK to encourage networking and knowledge sharing. BCIA YEN Member Zoe Dickson recently spoke at a CIBSE YEN’s “Celebrating YEN” event in London, to raise awareness of the BCIA and promote the significance of our industry’s role in achieving net zero buildings.
Engaging with CIBSE YEN provides opportunities for our young engineers to expand their networking opportunities, facilitating connections with a broader range of professionals and industry stakeholders. As a group, we can learn from a well-established network and can advocate more effectively for the interests of young engineers. We hope to take this opportunity to collaborate during 2024 to help BCIA YEN grow, and amplify our impact within the wider building services engineering community.
