BCIA debate and CPD presentation among Smart Buildings Show highlights
‘Making Existing Buildings Smart Buildings’
2.30pm, 9th October, Controls Theatre
In this panel session, BCIA will host a debate on an ongoing industry issue that attendees will find intriguing and enlightening. It focuses on the industry’s approach to retrofit in order for existing buildings to achieve the smart building standard. To attain this outcome, the discussion will promote building controls and automation as a primary solution. The debate, being chaired by BCIA President Stacey Lucas, will feature a panel comprising thought-leading public and private sector representatives including Andrew Cooke, Government Deputy Director at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. His input will be particularly anticipated with the discussion focusing on retrofit in relation to the sustainable refurbishment of schools, historic buildings, offices and other non-domestic environments.
Greater accountability regarding correct installation and maintenance of building controls and BEMS systems is also on the panel’s agenda. It follows recent moves to tighten legislation and instigate a step-change in regulations that lead to reduced energy consumption, improved air quality and support sustainability targets. The panel will consider where reliability lies in relation to building controls’ and BEMS systems’ optimisation in the UK. They will also discuss whether the private sector could be incentivised to adopt building controls more readily.
Featuring a panel of such high regard will ensure this debate inspires many potential solutions as it does questions, so make sure to take your place at this free-to-attend event.
A full line up of panellists and confirmed speakers will be announced in due course.
