BCIA voted by members to become Company Limited by Guarantee

At a members’ meeting held online on 22nd September 2023, 60% of 155 eligible corporate members cast a vote with 98% voting in favour of incorporating BCIA as a Company Limited by Guarantee.

Over the coming weeks, the BCIA will begin the legal process to incorporate, forming the Building Controls Industry Association Limited. The BCIA’s training company will be renamed BCIA Operations Limited and move into a group structure as a subsidiary of the Association. At the same time, members will receive a Form of Invitation along with the new Articles of Association to effect a transfer of membership to the Limited Company, in turn limiting their financial liability to £1. Members will be asked to accept the transfer by signing and returning the form.

BCIA President Graeme Rees said: “On behalf of the Management Committee I would like to thank so many members for playing their part in the vote. We continue to be an association run by its members for its members and this vote marks a significant milestone in the BCIA’s 31-year history. It means that the BCIA can build on its success but now as a corporate legal entity. Members will not see any change to membership benefits or how the Association is run on a day-to-day basis, yet this important decision – backed by members – ensures the Association continues to be recognised as the UK’s leading voice for the Building Controls industry.”
