Could you be the BCIA’s next Skills Working Group Chair?

If you’ve got a genuine passion for skills development, the Building Controls Industry Association (BCIA) may have just the position for you! The leading organisation currently has a vacancy for the Chair of the Skills Working Group.

The position is a voluntary role and is initially a two-year appointment, though there is opportunity to continue in the role.

As the primary advocate that drives the strategic direction, activities and output of the working group, the chair is a high-profile role, leading on some of the building controls sector’s most pressing matters.

Indeed, some of the projects the group recently, or is currently leading on, include the updating of ECS BEMS Competency cards to ensure they are fit for purpose and suit the needs of the sector, and the development and overseeing of the Experienced Worker Assessment pilot, which will launch formally within the coming weeks.

Additionally, the group will help develop the careers section on the new BCIA website, highlighting pathways into the industry and the myriad of roles that exist.

As the main conduit with the Management Committee for the Skills Working Group, the chair will regularly update and call on the committee to support opportunities and any challenges as they arise.

Why become the chair?

  • You can champion the interest area of the working group and lead on industry-wide initiatives

  • You’ll have a two-year term of office, with the opportunity to continue as working group chair and/or stand for committee vacancies

  • You can develop a wider network of contacts and business opportunities

  • You will raise your personal and corporate brand profile within the sector

  • You can shape the work of BCIA and the impact we have on both members and the building controls sector

  • You’ll be able to bring your specialist skills and expertise to the table to develop the working group and wider work of the BCIA

The working group typically meets three times a year as a minimum, so the next two meeting dates are Wednesday 26th June and Wednesday 6th November. The aim of the group is to pro-actively engage members to generate interest and awareness, as well as bring forward volunteer support to deliver Working Group projects.

To nominate yourself please send a short email to catherinew@feta.co.uk, no later than 30th April.
