Strong presence for Young Engineers Network at Smart Buildings Show

Members of the BCIA’s Young Engineers Network (YEN) were in attendance at this year’s Smart Buildings Show at ExCeL London on 18-19 October, as the organisation delivered its first ever seminar.

YEN Chair Greg Smith was stationed next to the Sontay stand outside the Controls & Networks Theatre to promote the Network to show attendees, while Yousaf Waheed, YEN Lead, North & Mids, Lucy Gale, YEN Head of Marketing & Communications, and Josh Steel and Ryan Kidd Ryan Kidd, YEN Joint Leads, South, and Zoe Dickson who is actively involved across various YEN groups, were also present to provide support.

The YEN’s seminar session was very well attended, with Greg giving a brief introduction to the Network and outlining its aims and ambitions, before Andy Camsell, BCIA Technical Consultant and Trainer, delivered an informative talk on Understanding Smart Communication using BACnet.

Yousaf Waheed said: “Smart Buildings Show was a great opportunity for us to reach out to potential new members and build our industry presence. The turnout for our first national CPD seminar was excellent and I’d like to thank Andy for delivering a brilliant talk. I had multiple engineers come up to me to ask how to join the YEN, again proving that networking, attending shows and setting up events like this will enable this group of aspiring engineers to thrive.”

Josh Steel added: “The event was a wonderful opportunity to engage with like-minded people within our industry and discuss the issues that surround the requirements of bringing young engineers into our line of business. On the YEN stand we were able to introduce people to the BCIA Young Engineers Network, hand out our flyers and explain what we as a group are looking to achieve with our future events and bright ideas to bring young engineers together.”

Lucy Gale concluded: “Events like this are so important for bringing the next generation of engineers together and nurturing collaboration. I’m looking forward to welcoming new members to our Network and can’t wait to see what future BCIA gatherings have in store.”
