BCIA announces Smart Buildings Show panel of industry leaders
With anticipation building towards this year’s Smart Buildings Show, the Building Controls Industry Association (BCIA) is pleased to announce the members of its ‘Making Existing Buildings Smart Buildings’ panel.
Andrew Cooke, the Co-Director for Industrial Decarbonisation and Emissions Trading, Department for Energy Security and Net Zero HM Government, Jon Belfield, Managing Director at InTandem Systems, Joanna Harris, UK & I Hard FM Ambassador at Sodexho, and Tony Small, Head of Engineering Services at the University of Liverpool, will all join BCIA President Stacey Lucas for the lively panel discussion.
The focus of the BCIA-hosted debate will be the industry’s approach to retrofit and how existing buildings can achieve the smart building standard.
With decades of combined experience and expertise in building controls, industrial strategy and facilities management, the panellists inputs will be particularly impactful, with much of the discussion likely to focus on retrofit in relation to the sustainable refurbishment of schools, historic buildings, offices, and other non-domestic environments.
The greater accountability regarding the correct installation and maintenance of BEMS systems and building controls will also see the panel consider where any responsibility lies in relation to building controls and BEMS systems optimisation. Furthermore, discussions will focus on whether the private sector could be incentivised to enable the greater adoption of building controls.
The debate, chaired by the BCIA President Stacey Lucas, takes place at 2.30pm on Wednesday 9th October 2024.
In addition to this highly enlightening discussion, the BCIA will also be hosting a comprehensive CPD session, entitled ‘Operational Technology Meets Information Technology.’ Taking place on Thursday 10th October and delivered as part of the Young Engineers Network programme of the events, this CPD will enable delegates to gain a better understanding of Operational Technology (OT) and its convergence with Information Technology (IT).
The two-day event takes place at ExCeL London on Wednesday 9th and Thursday 10th October. With plenty of interesting and thought-provoking debates, talks, and seminars, including two hosted by the BCIA, this flagship industry show is not to be missed.
