Young Engineers Network

About the Network

Chair: Josh Steel, Electracom

Vice Chair: Stan Thomas, Sontay Ltd.

Josh & Stan are supported by regional leads:

Kate O’Donnell, E.ON Control Solutions - North & Midlands

The Young Engineers Network is aimed at those under the age of 35 working in BCIA member companies.   The Network provides a platform for young BEMS engineers to come together to position and influence the growth of the sector and the profile and role of young engineers in the sector.  As a group, young engineers champion diversity in BEMS and provide opportunities for ongoing development and learning.  As well as meetings where the YEN focus on project activities and planning, they hold a series of events each year that include site visits, socials, CPD sessions etc.

YEN is free to join for those employed with BCIA member companies.

Be part of a network of like-minded industry professionals in a supportive, brand-agnostic, forum. The Network provides:

  • A platform for peer-to-peer collaboration, discussion and knowledge sharing

  • Formal and informal learning opportunities such as CPD sessions, industry talks, project site visits and product demonstration centres

  • Events and social activities to build a professional network

  • The opportunity to influence the growth, direction and profile of the Building Controls sector.

“It’s vital to have organisations like the BCIA developing platforms like the YEN to help build our great industry from the ground up. The key for me is building safe and friendly spaces for people from all different walks of life to feel comfortable to express their visions and be free from judgement to discuss hot topics – all while learning and growing professionally and personally, which the BCIA YEN provides. The young engineers are the future of our industry and if we all work hard collaboratively, I’m sure we’ll be able to look back with pride at what we and the young engineers accomplished.”

Josh Steel, YEN Chair

“Having found my path into the BEMS sector somewhat by chance, I’m now committed to building a robust YEN community that not only attracts but also retains young talent through a network grounded in shared knowledge, professional growth, and community. My goal is to build a vibrant, well-connected, and empowered YEN, supporting the growth of our industry from the ground up. By leveraging my role at Sontay and my industry contracts, I aim to connect YEN and BCIA more closely, creating a supportive network that promotes mentorship and knowledge-sharing across generations.”

Stan Thomas, YEN Vice Chair
